What’s Loggerhead Marinelife Center’s story? They save sea turtles and promote healthy oceans – all on one of the world’s most densely-populated sea turtle nesting beaches. Since 1983, LMC has protected Florida’s coastal ecosystems and provided free ocean conservation education to children, families and visitors. As one of Florida’s most unique cultural destinations, the non-profit facility educates over 300,000 visitors annually on their continued mission: to promote conservation of ocean ecosystems with a special focus on threatened and endangered sea turtles. LMC offers free admission every day to give every person equal access to conservation education, thanks to the generous support of donors and visitors. LMC’s oceanside campus is home to one of the world’s most advanced sea turtle hospitals and research laboratories. The center also hosts 15 live sea turtle viewing tanks, interactive learning exhibits and aquariums, and operates the iconic Juno Beach Pier. Recently, LMC has expanded its reach across the world with 16 global partnerships and an extensive portfolio of conservation initiatives, including the Responsible Pier Initiative, a program designed to educate anglers and pier-goers about responsible fishing practices. LMC’s on-campus Gordon & Patricia Gray Hospital features an exceptional surgical suite, bloodwork lab and advanced, cutting-edge treatment tools, which allows the center to rescue, rehabilitate and release 60-80 sea turtle patients on average every year.
